Application Process

Visit Us
Stop by TRFD Station 1 (268 Turn of River Road, Stamford, CT 06905) any Monday night at 6 PM to meet us and pick up an application, or:

Please be sure to print out your application and bring with you to the firehouse if you choose either option below.  This is required for member signatures and posting.

Click here for a downloadable PDF Application that you can print and complete.

You may also complete the application online, click here to use this option.  You will receive an email with the completed form, please be sure to print the form after you receive it.

Submitting Your Application

Once you submit your completed application, our Service Board team will review it and schedule an interview. If you meet the initial criteria, we will present your application at the next Department Business Meeting, held on the first Monday of each month. The membership will vote to "post your application," starting your posting period if approved.

Posting Period

 What to Expect
The posting period lasts a minimum of 28 days. The best advice—SHOW UP! Attend as much as possible. After 28 days, the Service Board will present your application for a final vote at the next monthly meeting. If approved, you'll become a member.

Requirements:

  • OSHA Physical: Schedule your physical through Interstate Diagnostics.  This must be completed before receiving gear or riding out on calls.
  • Background Check: Chief Pelazza will send you a link to complete this form. Submit it as soon as possible, as results can take time.
  • Sign-Off Sheet: Obtain the Posting to Election sign-off sheet from any Service Board member or officer. Completing this is required before moving on to the election process.
  • ICS Certifications: Complete ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications at FEMA Training and submit copies to the Service Board.

Tips & Suggestions

 Attend Drills
Drills are held every Monday night at 7 PM, except the first Monday of the month (Business Meeting at 8 PM). While you can only observe drills during the posting period, attending is a great way to learn and get involved.

Spend Time at the Station
You're welcome to visit the station anytime a TRFD member is present. Use this time to familiarize yourself with equipment and apparatus—seasoned members are happy to help. Call ahead at 203-322-0943 to check if members are at the station.

Engage with Members
Introduce yourself to members and officers, ask questions, and start conversations. Building connections early helps you integrate smoothly into the team.

Election Night:

If all goes well during your posting period, and you get voted in during the business meeting, you will officially become a probationary member starting that night!

· What does that mean?

· You get issued your own set of gear

· You are covered on our insurance as of that night

· And most importantly… once you get your gear, if a call comes in, you can ride out with us!
